Sadly we have now joined the rest of the world and have this yucky virus to contend with.
Our hearts go out to everyone that has lost rabbits due to the outbreak of RHDV2 (the variant is now 100% confirmed). The rabbit world here in South Africa has experienced heavy losses in places.
There is however light at the end of the tunnel for a lot of people. I attended a zoom meeting last night, a vaccine will be available in the not too distant future. We do not know what the cost implications will be yet.
This is great news for a lot of people but not everyone will be able to vaccinate their rabbits.
We recommend setting up a strict Biosecurity protocol to keep your rabbits safe, especially if you reside in an area that has had outbreaks.
